Annual Client Review Day

Saturday, 29th April 2017 marked our 3rd Annual Client Review Day, and I am pleased to say every year this event seems to gets bigger and better. So much so, that this year we had outgrown our offices and hosted the day at The Macdonald Botley Park Hotel.

This is one of my favourite days in the Redwood calendar as some of our most valued clients come together for a day of reviewing and planning for the next year! During the seminar we took Clients through important updates in the Financial and Estate Planning arena. Key highlights are the Budget analysis and commentary, making sure all of our Clients are kept well informed of any changes.

This year, the hot topic was the continued changing face of ISA ‘s. For many people, ISA’s represent a fantastic, tax efficient investment tool and over the last few Budgets we have seen more and more generous allowances and increased flexibility with this investment product; including the introduction of the Lifetime ISA for under 40-year-olds.

We also had a look at the Pension Flexible Access Rules, now two years on, to see how the pension industry was coping. And spent some time talking about final salary pensions and the options you have at retirement.

Of course we couldn’t forget to have a quick update on the markets in general, looking at the next two years with the Election, Brexit and Trump all playing on people’s minds.

We then moved onto a favourite topic of ours, Estate Planning. With so many Clients and their Guests in the room, many of whom have been appointed as Executors, Trustees and Attorney’s within our Client’s Estate Planning, we felt it was important to take everyone through what happens when someone dies. Who does what role and when? This is something that is largely missed off when writing or drawing up Wills and Trusts, but the post-death planning is absolutely critical, so you need to make sure you receive the best advice at that time. We also covered off the new Residential Nil Rate Band allowance which is now in effect and confirmed that we will be individually reviewing everyone’s planning in case any tweaks need to be made, but thankfully our planning is done in such a flexible way, that there should be no need to make any drastic changes to our planning and you will still be able to claim the new allowance.

After all of that, we had definitely earned our lunch and it was so great to get a chance to catch up personally with our clients whilst the food and drink flowed. Once everyone was fed and watered the real work began!

The second half of the Annual Review Day is dedicated to helping our Clients set personal goals for 2017. I believe what we do at Redwood goes beyond just simply building someone’s wealth; it is what you do with that wealth that really matters! So I was delighted to introduce Becky Craig from Blu Lake who took us through a session on mindset and beliefs as we all approach later life and ultimately helping us think about whether we want to face “old age” or BOLD AGE. (You can find more about what Becky does here)

A good part of the afternoon session is spent encouraging our Clients to set themselves personal achievements for the year, we had some wonderful personal goals which included once-in-a-lifetime holidays, learning to play the drums, renovating the family home and even taking a sailing qualification.

Personal goals now set, attendees were then asked to turn their attention to their Financial and Estate Planning goals for 2017. What planning was important to them for this year, so we could make sure that we help all of our Clients have the most up-to-date and relevant planning in place.

All in all it was a great day and I loved seeing so many of our Client’s, as well as seeing all of the amazing things that they are planning to achieve in 2017. For myself and the team, I know it is an absolute honour and privilege that we get to help support our Clients in achieving these important goals and I look forward to seeing how everyone progresses throughout the year.

We finished the day with a big thank you to all our Clients who have referred people to us in the last year, but we also got to give a special thank you to our top referring Client of 2016, Mr & Mrs Crosby!

Thank you to everyone who attended and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!
