After the enjoyment of last years Great Redwood Bake Off, we decided to compete once again for the prestigious title of Redwood Star Baker.

The format was the same as last year, each week a different member of the team would need to bring in a different baked good, with each bake being marked on taste, look and the quality of the bake. However, this year there was an added complexity, with Jasmine still going strong on giving up chocolate, chocolate was avoided where possible!

To start the competition the team were treated to two bakes from Steve and Julie, (no prizes for guessing whose creation belongs to whom!) However, Steve created an interesting, Cheese and Bacon Turnover with a twist, instead of the traditional puff pastry Steve opted for short crust pastry and BBQ sauce! Despite concerns from the team they were edible, if not a little unusual! Julie on the other hand put in a very early contender for the title, with a stunning, light and delicious Victoria Sponge! This was not far from faultless and set the bar incredible high!

Week 2 and it was the turn of last year’s wooden spoon winner! Jasmine created a very colourful and summery Pimm’s cake, interestingly containing cucumber! This was a very tasty effort and would surely be enough to ensure Jasmine wouldn’t come last again this year!

Week 3 of the Great Redwood Bake Off and it is Kieran’s turn. Kieran made sparkly macarons which contained a champagne and vanilla filling with popping candy!

Week 4 and it was the turn of last year’s runner up Hollie. Who was looking to go one better this time around! Hollie created a deliciously creamy Strawberries and Cream Baked Cheesecake! Despite scoring being done in secret, this bake received very high praise from the team! We may have found this year’s winner!

As we approach the final couple of weeks of the Great Redwood Bake Off, the competition was really hotting-up! Especially with the turn of last year’s winner Steph! After wowing the team last year with cheese and bacon twists, Steph once again proved her baking ability producing stunning and delicious croissants some of which contained Nutella! It was clear that once again the team were very impressed! Will we have the same winner this time around?

The final week of the Great Redwood Bake Off! And bringing the competition to a stunning close with her first entry into the competition was Sarah. Sarah created a delicious and extremely chocolatey Ferrero Rocher Tart! (It is important to point out that Jasmine was on a much-needed holiday and did not eat chocolate!) This entry threw the whole competition wide open!

On to the results! Jasmine was relieved to this year pass the wooden spoon onto Steve! After his interesting BBQ short crust pastry effort failed to get enough points to climb above Jasmine into sixth place.

And after much anticipation the winner was… Hollie! Hollie takes the prize of a meal voucher, the winners apron and a bottle of bubbles but most importantly the title of becoming the second Redwood Star Baker! The delicious Strawberries and Cream Baked Cheesecake fended off close competition from Sarah who came second and Julie who came third!

Once again, the competition provided great entertainment in the office and there is no doubt the quality is increasing every year. Who knows you may even see a member of the team on The Great British Bake Off next year!
