paul_hollywood__su_3388875kInspired by the hit BBC show – The Great British Bake Off. It was decided that the Redwood Team would compete against each other for the honour of becoming the inaugural Redwood Star Baker! Each week a different member of the team would bring in a different baked good, with each bake being marked on taste, look and the quality of the bake.

fullsizerender2Starting us off was Jasmine, despite cooking late into the night (and a week later than planned!) we were presented with Chocolate Chip, Chocolate & Hazelnut and Lemon & Pistachio Cake Cookies. At this point it was decided that the guest judge would be Martin the Postman and that no scores would be revealed until the end of the competition. Despite this everyone could see that the bar had been set fairly high!

fullsizerender1Week 2 and it was the turn of pre-competition favourite Steph! Steph made some delicious Cheese and Bacon Twists and Turnovers and a Sausage Plait. These were clearly a contender and extra technical marks would have been given for making homemade puff pastry. The whole team agreed Steph needed to apply for the actual GBBO!

kieran-cakeWeek 3 began with Kieran dropping his cake. (Not a great start!)  Despite never baking a cake before and some kitchen dramas, Kieran made a Chocolate Oreo Cake which tasted surprisingly good! (note, this picture was taken before it was dropped and tried to be rescued!)

img_3080Week 4 of the Redwood Bake Off and it was the turn of our very own Paul Hollywood, Steve. Despite not baking since childhood and to the whole teams’ surprise, Steve produced a really excellent Victoria sponge!

blondiesIn the penultimate week, Julie created Pecan Blondies and Chewy Apricot Cookies (taken from the book of Queen of baking – Mary Berry). Despite warning of giving the office food poisoning they were delicious. After a strong entry from Husband Steve in the previous week, Julie could have crumbled in the tussle for home bragging rights but these were fantastic, receiving high scores from Martin the Postman!

holly-cake-2And to the final week of the Redwood Bake Off and bringing the competition to a close was Hollie. The team were presented with a stunning Red Velvet Cake and Vanilla Cupcakes. At this point scoring was still in secret, but this entry was definitely in with a chance!

steph-bake-offAfter a long wait the results are finally in and the Winner is…. Steph! The only savoury entry received the highest marks. Bacon, cheese and pastry – what’s not to love!? Steph takes home a bottle of bubbles, an apron, a meal for 2 voucher and the distinction of becoming the Redwood Star Baker! Beating Hollie to the title by just 1 point!! For every winner there has to be a loser and this (surprisingly) falls to Jasmine! Despite her entry being delicious it failed to gain the points needed to beat Steve into fifth.

Twoddenspoonhe whole competition provided great entertainment and surprisingly everyone produced something edible. Not a soggy bottom in sight!
