What were you doing on Sunday morning? Sleeping? Nursing a hangover? Cooking a full English breakfast?

What was I and 18 of my friends doing Sunday morning, I hear you ask?

I held my first Coffee Morning at my home to raise money for Macmillan; you may have seen this advertised on the T.V! And what a great morning it was! Having never held one before, I wasn’t quite sure what was expected of you!? So the night before, I made my cakes: one Mocha Marble Cake and one Victoria Sponge (I forgot the baking powder, so this one was a bit of a flop!) and kindly Redwood had let me borrow the water urns, so I didn’t have to be stuck to the kettle all morning! But my Mum did get rewarded with the ‘Chief Tea Pourer’ Sticker!

The girls started pouring in at 10:30am and the donation box soon filled up with crisp notes and shiny coins!

The idea of the coffee morning was for everyone attending to either bring or bake their own cakes or cookies and then simply make a donation for a piece of cake and a cup of tea or coffee and catch up with friends and have a good old gossip!

Macmillan sent me a wonderful goodie pack, which included loads of decorations, balloons, cake recipes, stencils, table cloth, cake flags, labels, cake games and more! I couldn’t believe how much they sent! I even had fun stickers which I handed out to my guests: Star Baker, Coffee Lover, Soggy Bottom and more!

The morning went super fast and soon enough the girls were all caked out!!! I then had the exciting task of counting all of the money collected in the money boxes!

Wait for it………. a whopping £278.00 was raised! I am truly humbled at the generosity of everyone for donating to such a worthy cause. And all this in just two hours! It was such a good idea to get together with friends and family, for cake and coffee and have a good catch up, away from the noisy kids (and partners!).

I cannot wait to do this again next year and have even more people there to raise even more money! Maybe I will have to hire a hall!?!

I finally want to share with you just what our £278.00 will help towards Macmillan and those facing Cancer:

£71.00 – Could keep a Macmillan support centre running for an extra hour.

£181.00 – Could pay for a Macmillan Social worker to spend a day helping people with the tricky, everyday problems that come with facing cancer.

£203.00 – Could make sure a Macmillan Nurse is there for a whole day to provide essential medical, practical and emotional support for with someone facing cancer.

£278.00 – Could keep a Macmillan support centre stocked for a month with all the things it needs to support families standing by a loved one affected by cancer.

Amazing effort from everyone and I could not be prouder! Here’s to next year!
