My dad….. always my rock, my protector, the strong man I looked up to and knew would always look after me, that was before the death of my wonderful mum 6 years ago and his subsequent diagnosis of Dementia.

3 weeks ago my dad had a stroke which has made his Dementia much worse.

The tables have now turned and my dad is a fragment of the man he once was, and is needing the help and support of others and of course me.  I am currently searching for care for him to enable him to leave hospital and return to his home, where I know he will be much happier.  I want my dad to have the best care and to make sure that he is looked after, but this he will have to pay for.  Everything he has worked hard for and saved over the years will now go to fund his care, which some people will say is fine, but I’m sure that for most of us this is not what we would want.

The process of trying to get my dad home, is also taking longer than necessary as we do not have access to his funds.  My dad created a Lasting Power of Attorney for his Property and Affairs and he appointed the Solicitor as his Attorney.  Here at Redwood Financial Family Wealth & Estate Planners we always recommend that you appoint your nearest and dearest to be your Attorney’s, as they then have complete access immediately to any funds to assist your family member.

If  protecting your hard earned wealth and property is important to you, then it is essential that you get the right advice and at the right time.  This is something that I have learnt since working here at Redwood Financial and that I wish my parents had taken a long time ago.
